What's the Value of Face? Measuring the WTA to Disclose Important Personal Information

報告摘要

Protecting personal information is increasingly important in digital economy, but how much people value important personal information such as facial or travel information is largely unknown. We investigate Chinese people’s willingness-to-accept (WTA) to disclose verfiable facial photos and travel history by providing “take-it-or-leave-it” offers in an online experiment. We find that the estimated value of facial photo is CNY34.14 , which is about 1.3 times the minimum housely wage, in contrast to that of travel history (CNY15.98). Females or people without a bachelor degree are less willing to disclose their facial or travel history information than males or people with a bachelor degree . We also investigate privacy paradox in our context.


報告人簡介

孟涓涓，現任北京大學光華管理學院應用經濟學系教授，國家自然科學基金傑出青年項目和優秀青年項目獲得者，目前任期刊Management Science副主編。她的研究專長包括行為經濟學，行為金融學等。她的研究成果發表在國外頂級學術期刊上，如American Economic Review, Management Science, Journal of Public Economics, International Economic Review, Journal of Development Economics, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
